Nova Scotia man charged after stealing ambulance from Antigonish hospital

A 36-year-old man from Deerfield, Nova Scotia, has been charged after stealing an unoccupied ambulance from St. Martha’s Regional Hospital in Antigonish on September 10, 2026.

RCMP officers initially attempted to stop the vehicle on Beech Hill Road and later on Highway 104 near James River, but the driver failed to pull over. To ensure public safety, police tracked the vehicle's movements rather than engaging in a high-speed pursuit. The chase concluded in Sullivans River when Pictou County RCMP deployed a spike belt to deflate the ambulance's tires. Despite the damage, the vehicle continued along Highway 104 until it eventually stopped on the shoulder near New Glasgow, where the driver was safely arrested.

The suspect faces multiple charges, including theft of a motor vehicle, driving while a license is suspended or revoked, and failure to comply with release conditions.
