Nova Scotia Minister Marco MacLeod faces calls to resign over past lyrics

Adsum House, a Halifax-based shelter supporting women and children, has called for the removal of Nova Scotia Energy Minister Marco MacLeod following the discovery of past musical recordings containing violent and misogynistic lyrics.

The songs, released under the name Meadowville, include derogatory language and were reportedly recorded between 2009 and 2013. Adsum House expressed that they were “sickened” by the material, noting that MacLeod was an adult, likely in his 20s, when the tracks were produced. The organization stated there is no place for the “boys will be boys” mentality that contributes to violence against women.

MacLeod described the recordings as “ridiculous” songs that captured past pop culture and admitted he would not make them today. The Progressive Conservative Party caucus acknowledged the presence of “bad language” and noted the recordings date back over a decade when MacLeod was much younger.
