Nova Scotia researchers film massive 6.1-meter Great White Shark

During the filming of the documentary “Shark Week” off the coast of Nova Scotia, Canada, researchers encountered an exceptionally large female Great White Shark nicknamed “Big Rose.” The shark, identified by a flower-shaped marking on her dorsal fin, measured approximately 6.10 meters in length and weighed at least three tons.

Marine biologists noted that the shark’s significant body width, measuring about 1.80 meters, may indicate pregnancy. Experts, including Dr. Neil Hammerschlag and Paul de Gelder, described the encounter as extraordinary, with de Gelder suggesting the animal could be one of the largest ever recorded. The massive shark was observed consuming a tuna bait in a single bite before returning to the depths.

Scientific data suggests that a length of 6.1 meters represents the upper limit of documented sizes for the species.
