Novak Djokovic advances at Wimbledon after joking about a wedding invitation

World No. 8 Novak Djokovic opened his Wimbledon campaign with a 3‑1 victory over China’s Wu Yibing, winning the sets 6‑4, 5‑7, 6‑4 and 6‑4. Mid‑match, Djokovic paused to quip, “I want an invitation to the wedding,” after hearing a proposal request from a spectator. The Serbian will meet Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas, ranked No. 87, in the second round.

The win marks Djokovic’s first match at the 2025 Wimbledon Championships and continues his pursuit of a record eighth title.
