Novak Djokovic defends Serena Williams after Wimbledon loss

Novak Djokovic said that spectators should "cool off a little bit with judgment" after 44‑year‑old Serena Williams was defeated by 20‑year‑old Maya Joint in the first round of Wimbledon. He noted Williams’ age, two children and long absence from the tour, explaining that reduced movement was expected.

Williams, who received a wild‑card entry for both singles and doubles, lost 6‑3, 6‑7 (6), 6‑3, but still served over 120 mph and displayed competitive groundstrokes. She tweaked her right knee during the match and said she hopes to play doubles with sister Venus later in the tournament.
