Novak Djokovic wins ATP 500 title in Beijing
Novak Djokovic has secured his first title of the year and his 102nd career title by winning the ATP 500 tournament in Beijing. His path to the championship included a significant quarterfinal victory over Alexander Zverev, where Djokovic overcame a first-set deficit to win 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.
The tournament victory was marked by a rule controversy during the match against Zverev. Following a change in LED advertising panel lighting, Zverev requested a point replay after the rally had concluded. Djokovic protested the decision, arguing that the interference should have been addressed immediately, calling the procedure one of the “stupidest changes of regulation” he had encountered.
Djokovic reached the final after his semifinal opponent, Daniil Medvedev, was disqualified, and secured the trophy after Alex de Minaur retired in the second set due to a groin injury.
