Novak Đoković and Daniil Medvedev face challenges in Shanghai

Novak Đoković has departed China following an unexpected second-round exit at the Shanghai Masters against Hubert Hurkacz. The early loss complicates Đoković’s pursuit of a spot in the ATP Finals in Turin, as he now relies on the results of competitors such as Daniil Medvedev, Taylor Fritz, and Alex de Minaur to secure his ranking.

Đoković stated his intention to compete in the Paris Masters starting November 2 to bolster his chances. Before heading to Paris, he is scheduled to participate in an exhibition tournament in Riyadh.

Meanwhile, Daniil Medvedev, who has advanced to the third round in Shanghai, addressed his recent disqualification during a tournament in Beijing. The incident occurred during a semifinal match against Đoković when Medvedev hit a spectator with a ball, resulting in the fan being hospitalized. Medvedev expressed regret for the incident, noting that he personally visited the fan to apologize and gifted him a signed racket.
