Novales hosts 15th Limones Solidarios festival in Cantabria
The 15th edition of the 'Limones Solidarios de Novales' festival in Alfoz de Lloredo, Cantabria, was held this Saturday. The event, which has newly been declared a Regional Festival of Tourist Interest, recognized several prominent figures. Infanta Elena was named 'Honorary Ambassador,' actress Leonor Lavado was named 'Solidarity Ambassador,' and the President of Cantabria, María José Sáenz de Buruaga, received the title of 'Solidarity Limonera.'
President Buruaga committed to working toward obtaining a Protected Geographical Indication (IGP) status for the local lemons, described as a unique product and a key driver for the municipality.
The festival serves a charitable purpose, with funds raised this year intended to purchase magazines for cancer patients and their companions at the Marqués de Valdecilla and Sierrallana University Hospitals. Additionally, a new training initiative has been launched in collaboration with the Novales Neighborhood Council to teach the cultivation of various lemon species to unemployed individuals, utilizing the expertise of older residents.
