Novalesa Abbey celebrates 1300th anniversary with commemorative walk

Approximately 800 participants took part in the “Sulla Via dell’Abbazia” walk on October 4, 2026, to celebrate the 1300th anniversary of the Novalesa Abbey. The 14-kilometer non-competitive route began in Susa and concluded at the monastic complex in Novalesa, following parts of the historic Via Francigena.

Organized by ASD IRIDE and supported by the Metropolitan City of Turin, the event traversed the Dora Riparia basin and the Cenischia valley, passing through Mompantero and Venaus. Despite scheduling delays caused by Trenitalia railway works on the Bussoleno – Bardonecchia line, the excursion proceeded as planned. Participants were offered guided tours of the abbey and refreshments provided by the Novalesa Pro Loco and Gruppo Alpini.
