Novartis breaks ground on new biomedical research center in San Diego
Novartis has commenced construction on a new global Biomedical Research center in San Diego, California. The approximately 466,000-square-foot facility is designed to integrate AI-enabled discovery capabilities and is expected to house roughly 1,000 employees once it becomes operational in 2029.
The center aims to accelerate drug discovery in key therapeutic areas, including neuroscience and oncology, with a specific focus on genetics and human biology. This project is part of a broader $23 billion investment by Novartis in the United States to expand research and development and advanced manufacturing capabilities. The San Diego site will connect with the company’s existing global research hubs in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and Basel, Switzerland.
