Novartis India to acquire Pfizer trademarks for INR 1,250 crore

Novartis India has approved the acquisition of the ‘Minipress’ and ‘Minipres’ trademarks from Pfizer Inc. and Pfizer Products Inc. for INR 1,250 crore. The deal includes the assignment of specific related intellectual property rights in India.

Following a global manufacturing halt by Pfizer Inc., Pfizer Ltd announced it will discontinue the marketing, distribution, and sale of Minipress XL in India. The medication, which contains the active ingredient prazosin, is used to treat hypertension and manage urinary symptoms related to benign prostatic hyperplasia.

Data indicates that Minipress XL recorded revenues of INR 228.6 crore as of July 2026, maintaining a compound annual growth rate of 6.3 per cent over the last four years. Following the announcement, Novartis India shares saw a 4 per cent increase.
