Novi Bečej murder investigation: Woman's body found in freezer

Police in Zrenjanin have arrested a 40-year-old man, identified as M. S., following the discovery of his 69-year-old mother's body in a home near Novi Bečej. Parts of the deceased woman's body were found in a freezer within the residence.

The Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Zrenjanin has ordered an autopsy at the Institute for Forensic Medicine in Novi Sad to determine the exact cause and time of death. Investigators are examining whether the woman died from starvation or if she was the victim of fatal injuries inflicted by her son.

M. S., who has a prior history of domestic violence and psychiatric treatment, has been taken into custody for up to 48 hours. Local residents described the deceased as a respected retired doctor, while noting that her son had a history of behavioral issues and substance abuse.
