Novi Sad commemorates 82nd anniversary of city liberation
Novi Sad held ceremonies to mark the 82nd anniversary of its liberation during World War II on October 23. City officials, including Mayor Žarko Mićin and City Assembly Vice President Kristina Karaić, laid wreaths at the Memorial Cemetery of the Fighters of the National Liberation War to honor those who died for the city's freedom.
During the commemorations, the city held a formal academy where the October Awards and November Charters were presented to individuals and institutions for outstanding achievements in fields such as healthcare, music, and community service. Notable recipients included Professor Dejan Ivanov for innovations in surgery and flautist Dunja Velemir for musical excellence.
Mihajlo Vujasin, president of the local Union of Associations of Fighters of the National Liberation War (SUBNOR), emphasized the importance of preserving anti-fascist traditions and remembering the sacrifices made during the war to rebuild the city from its post-war devastation.
