Aleksandar Vučić postpones SNS rally in Novi Sad

President Aleksandar Vučić has announced the postponement of a major Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) rally in Novi Sad, originally scheduled for September 4. Vučić stated the decision was made because human lives are his top priority, noting he did not want a situation where police would have to protect his supporters from angry citizens.

Novi Sad Mayor Žarko Mićin supported the decision, characterizing it as an act of responsibility and statesmanlike awareness rather than a sign of political weakness. However, opposition groups and political analysts have criticized the move, suggesting the cancellation is a political fiasco or a calculated maneuver to avoid public backlash.

In response to the cancellation, the Citizens' Assemblies of Novi Sad have called for a counter-gathering at Freedom Square on Friday at 7:00 PM. Meanwhile, student protesters in Niš have also organized a demonstration for Saturday to meet Vučić and SNS members, signaling continued unrest regarding the current administration.
