Novi Sad students rank seventh in global AMD research competition

Students from the Department of Mathematics and Informatics at the Faculty of Science (PMF) in Novi Sad achieved seventh place in a prestigious global research competition organized by AMD. The team competed against 91 teams from 26 different countries.

The competition focused on developing agent systems to optimize flow allocation and interconnection for user circuits on Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) chips. These chips are notable for their ability to change functionality at the hardware level after leaving the factory, making them essential for real-time decision-making in autonomous vehicles and humanoid robotics.

The achievement is considered particularly significant because the competition was open to researchers of all ages and experience levels. While many competing teams included doctoral students, postdoctoral researchers, and engineers from major companies such as Qualcomm and Baykar, the Novi Sad team consisted entirely of second- and third-year undergraduate students. The team, mentored by Dr. Stefan Nikolić, received special recognition after their solution provided the third-best result in three of the seven final evaluation rounds.
