Novi Travnik Receives First Direct EU Grant for Heritage Project

Novi Travnik, a town in Bosnia and Herzegovina, has received its first direct, non‑repayable EU funding. A grant agreement was signed for the HERITAGE – Baština project valued at 460,000 convertible marks.

The project will modernise the presentation of the Maculje stećak necropolis, a UNESCO World Heritage site, by creating an interactive exhibition space “Maculje: Stone Witnesses of Time” in the town’s cultural centre, equipped with multimedia technology.

Mayor Stjepan Dujo said the funding marks a new start and challenge, aiming to offer content not currently available in the Central Bosnia Canton and to attract both locals and tourists. Partners include the municipality of Andrijaševci in Croatia and the Tourist Board of Podgorica in Montenegro, reflecting a cross‑border effort to valorise medieval heritage in the Vukovar‑Srijem County, Central Bosnia Canton and Podgorica region.
