Novig lawsuit against Massachusetts paused by federal judge

A federal judge has paused a lawsuit filed by Novig against the state of Massachusetts regarding prediction market regulations. The stay will remain in effect until the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court issues a ruling on a related appeal by Kalshi, which challenges an order preventing the company from offering sports event contracts without a state license.

As part of the agreement, Massachusetts has agreed not to pursue enforcement actions against Novig while the case is paused. The court also removed officials from the Massachusetts Gaming Commission as defendants, leaving Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell as the sole defendant.

In a separate legal matter, Novig and New Mexico officials have requested a pause in their federal lawsuit until August 2027. This request is linked to a Commodity Futures Trading Commission lawsuit against New Mexico concerning the enforcement of gambling laws against CFTC-regulated prediction markets.
