Novo Nordisk and AWS partner to accelerate drug discovery via AI

Novo Nordisk and Amazon Web Services (AWS) have entered a strategic partnership to accelerate drug discovery and modernize operations using agentic AI and cloud technologies. The collaboration includes the establishment of a co-innovation hub in London, where scientists and engineers will utilize AWS AI technologies alongside Novo Nordisk data to shorten the timeline from identifying drug targets to administering the first human dose.

Novo Nordisk has designated AWS as its preferred cloud provider and strategic AI partner. The company intends to use services such as Amazon Bio Discovery and Amazon Bedrock to identify drug targets, design therapies, and integrate genomic, imaging, and clinical data. Additionally, the firm will leverage Amazon Bedrock AgentCore to improve operational efficiencies.

According to Novo Nordisk CEO Mike Doustdar, the partnership aims to make AI a primary driver of innovation to create progress for patients living with serious chronic diseases. The company reports that previous collaborations have already yielded results, such as reduced clinical documentation time and increased productivity for over 25,000 employees.
