Novo Nordisk expands obesity drug market share via Wegovy pill
Novo Nordisk continues to hold a significant position in the global GLP-1 market, maintaining approximately a 43% market share for obesity and diabetes treatments. Despite increased competition from Eli Lilly’s Mounjaro and Zepbound, the company is focusing on its product pipeline to maintain its edge.
Key developments include the expansion of the Wegovy franchise, specifically through the introduction of an oral pill form. In the United States, the oral Wegovy has reportedly captured 90% of the oral obesity market with over 5 million prescriptions since its launch. In the European Union, the oral version received regulatory approval in July 2026.
The company is also advancing next-generation candidates such as CagriSema to differentiate its offerings. Analysts note that while the stock has experienced recent volatility, the company’s valuation remains attractive to some investors due to its robust pipeline and the massive global demand for obesity treatments, which affects over one billion people worldwide.
