Novo Nordisk launches new Wegovy variant in Singapore amid obesity‑drug competition
Novo Nordisk, the Danish pharmaceutical group, has introduced a new 7.2 mg semaglutide formulation of its obesity drug Wegovy in Singapore. The launch targets a population of about six million, where roughly one‑seventh are classified as overweight. Clinical trials over 72 weeks showed the dosage cuts patients’ weight by at least 25 percent on average, reinforcing the company’s first‑mover position in the obesity market.
The rollout comes as Novo Nordisk faces growing pressure from rivals such as Eli Lilly, while its flagship products Wegovy and Ozempic continue to grow but confront pricing challenges. Analysts note the firm will need more than past Wegovy success to sustain its market leadership amid intensifying competition.
