Novo Nordisk opens Czech obesity‑drug plant in Bohumil

Danish pharmaceutical giant Novo Nordisk inaugurated a new manufacturing facility in the village of Bohumil, near Jevany in the Czech Republic. The company invested more than 8 billion CZK to modernise the almost‑20‑hectare site it bought from Novavax for 4.8 billion CZK. The plant will employ about 300 workers and focus on the production and development of medicines for obesity and type‑2 diabetes, with an eye on both domestic supply and export.

CEO Mike Doustdar said the location will “serve not only the Czech Republic but also allow us to export some of our newer products.” Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš and ministers of industry and health attended the opening, describing the investment as strategic for increasing the country’s drug‑manufacturing self‑sufficiency and reducing dependence on third‑country supplies. The venture is expected to boost local employment, tax revenues and the Czech position in the international pharmaceutical sector.
