Novo Nordisk partners with AWS to integrate AI into drug development
Novo Nordisk has entered a strategic partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to establish a co-innovation hub in London. The initiative aims to utilize artificial intelligence and agentic systems to accelerate the drug development process, from initial identification to human application. The company reports that 25,000 employees are already using these new tools to increase productivity, noting a reduction in documentation time for clinical studies.
This technological push follows recent clinical setbacks, including the ZEUS study for Ziltivekimab and the REIMAGINE-4 study for CagriSema. Simultaneously, Novo Nordisk CEO Mike Doustdar has addressed market challenges, acknowledging that competitor Eli Lilly has been gaining market share. While Novo Nordisk raised its full-year sales guidance, its stock has faced pressure due to price reductions on Ozempic and Wegovy intended to increase patient access, alongside a higher concentration of business in obesity and diabetes drugs compared to its more diversified competitors.
