Novo Nordisk reports pediatric obesity trial success amid market pressure
Novo Nordisk is facing market pressure as its stock has recently underperformed broader indices, including the S&P 500. Analysts are monitoring upcoming earnings, with projections suggesting a potential year-over-year decrease in both earnings per share and total revenue.
Despite these financial headwinds and increased competition from Eli Lilly in the GLP-1 space, the company has reported positive clinical results for semaglutide. In a phase 3 clinical trial targeting pediatric patients aged six to 11 with obesity, 40.4% of patients on semaglutide were no longer classified as obese after 68 weeks, compared to 0% in the placebo group.
This development could position Novo Nordisk to enter the pediatric obesity market, which the CDC estimates includes over 20 million children in the United States alone.
