Novo Nordisk unveils 2030 growth strategy amid share price decline

Novo Nordisk unveiled its strategic roadmap during a Capital Markets Day in London, aiming to diversify its portfolio and maintain growth amid increasing competition in the obesity market. CEO Mike Doustdar announced plans to launch more than five multi-blockbuster drugs by 2030 and targets over 150 billion Danish kroner in pipeline sales by 2035. To address looming patent expirations for semaglutide in the early 2030s, the company is expanding its research into cardiovascular, liver, and endocrine diseases.

The company also emphasized a shift toward oral therapies, aiming to increase production of oral obesity treatments tenfold to serve 15 million patients by the end of the decade. Recent strategic moves include a partnership with Orbis Medicines for oral macrocycle therapeutics and the acquisition of early-stage programs from Kallyope.

Despite these ambitious targets, Novo Nordisk shares fell as much as 9% in Copenhagen. Investors expressed concern over the company’s ability to regain its market lead from Eli Lilly and sought more concrete details regarding near-term turnaround efforts and margin stability.
