Novo party petitions TSE to revoke Lula and Alckmin's registration
The Novo party has filed a lawsuit with the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) against President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Vice President Geraldo Alckmin, alleging abuse of economic power and misuse of media.
The legal action stems from a Carnival parade by the Acadêmicos de Niterói samba school in February, which featured a theme honoring Lula. Novo argues that the event served as premature electoral promotion and questions the use of public resources to fund the presentation. The party is seeking the revocation of the Lula-Alckmin ticket's registration and a declaration of ineligibility for the president.
This follows previous legal inquiries, including a request from the Liberal Party (PL) to investigate potential irregularities in the parade and a challenge by Novo regarding a R$ 1 million transfer to the samba school via the Independent League of Samba Schools of Rio de Janeiro.
