Novodnestrovsk reservoir reaches critical water levels

The Novodnestrovsk reservoir, a primary water source for the Dniester River in Ukraine, has reached critical water levels. Environment Minister Gheorghe Hajder reported that water levels have dropped to 111.72 meters, following a recent decline of 25 centimeters.

This situation is attributed to a lack of precipitation in the upper Dniester basin. Compared to the same period last year, when the average level was approximately 117 meters, the current level represents a decrease of about four meters. The crisis is exacerbated by a deficit between incoming water and outflows; between August 28 and September 3, the average inflow was only 33 cubic meters per second, while outflows were maintained at 60 cubic meters per second.

Authorities have urged the population to use water rationally. Similar difficulties are being recorded on the Prut River, specifically regarding the Stânca-Costești reservoir, which has also seen reduced inflows.
