Novoli community mourns death of beloved neighborhood dog Rex

The community of Novoli, in the province of Lecce, is mourning the death of Rex, a well-known neighborhood dog who lived freely among the town's streets for 19 years. Although Rex did not have a traditional home, the local citizens provided him with care, respect, and affection, treating him as a member of the community.

Rex became a symbol of the bond between humans and animals in the Puglia region. His passing has caused significant emotion among residents, including local officials like Councilor Federica Pezzuto. Rex was buried at the animal cemetery ‘L’Ultima Cuccia’ following the efforts of those who cared for him.

The situation has highlighted the importance of responsible coexistence and the regional regulations in Puglia regarding neighborhood dogs, which include health checks, sterilization, and identification to ensure both animal welfare and public safety.
