Novonesis to invest US$705 million in Indian enzyme facility

Novonesis, a Danish biotechnology and biosolutions company, has announced a major investment to expand its facility in Patalganga, Maharashtra, India. The investment, valued at approximately €600 million (US$705.2 million), aims to create one of the world’s most advanced enzyme production facilities.

The new facility is expected to be fully operational by 2030. It will produce enzymes for various sectors, including biofuels, household care, food and beverages. The expansion is designed to increase production capacity to meet rising global demand and strengthen the company’s supply network resilience.

By expanding in India, Novonesis intends to bring its production closer to key growth markets in the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia. The facility will also incorporate sustainable design features, such as freshwater recycling and integrated heat pumps, to reduce water and energy consumption.
