Nowy Sącz: Man dies after police shooting during knife intervention

A 41-year-old man died in a hospital after being shot by police during an intervention on Lwowska Street in Nowy Sącz. The incident occurred on Sunday morning following reports of a man walking with a knife.

According to police reports, officers attempted to command the man to drop the weapon, but he failed to comply. After an unsuccessful attempt to subdue him with a taser, a second officer fired shots when the man moved toward an officer with the knife. Authorities stated the use of firearms was justified due to the direct threat to the lives and health of the officers.

The prosecutor's office is currently investigating the circumstances of the shooting to determine if the use of force was justified. Investigators have secured evidence, including body camera footage, weapons, and tasers, to reconstruct the events.
