Nowy Sącz residents petition to restore historical colors of TKt48-177 locomotive

A dispute has emerged in Nowy Sącz regarding the appearance of the TKt48-177 steam locomotive, a historical monument located in front of the railway station. Following a recent renovation, the locomotive was given a colorful artistic makeover by local artist Mgr Mors, featuring intense colors and themes related to travel and luggage.

This artistic transformation has sparked significant local debate. In response, Kamil Jakubowski has launched an online petition addressed to Mayor Ludomir Handzel. The petitioners demand that the locomotive be restored to its original historical black and red color scheme. They argue that a monument of technical history should not serve as a canvas for contemporary painting.

The petition also calls for expert consultations and the establishment of formal rules for the object's future protection, noting that the city will celebrate the 150th anniversary of its railway history in 2026.
