Nowy Targ Mayor under investigation for potential abuse of power

The Limanowa prosecutor's office is investigating whether the Mayor of Nowy Targ, Grzegorz Watycha, exceeded his authority. The investigation centers on the failure to provide the Chairman of the City Council with a 2016 agreement involving the city, the Szaflary commune, the Municipal Heat Energy Enterprise (MPEC), and Geotermia Podhalańska.

Jan Sięka, the City Council Chairman for the 2024–2025 term, stated that the agreement was intended to establish a company called Geotermia Nowotarska. Sięka claims the terms were unfavorable to Nowy Targ, resulting in the city holding a minority of votes, and that the agreement was reached without the Council's consent.

Mayor Grzegorz Watycha has stated he is unaware of the ongoing investigation. He maintained that the matter had previously been addressed and that the refusal to disclose the document was due to the other signatories—Geotermia, Szaflary, and MPEC—not consenting to its release.
