NOx Fund updates emission reduction subsidies in Norway
The NOx Fund has announced significant changes to its support schemes for reducing nitrogen oxide emissions, effective for new applications processed from November 24, 2026. The updates aim to increase the number of projects receiving support by adjusting subsidy rates and eligibility.
Key changes include the reintroduction of support for engine replacements, provided the new engines are Tier III-certified to meet the strictest international emission standards. While the support rate is increasing from 600 to 900 NOK per kilogram of reduced NOx, the maximum support percentage is being reduced from 70 to 60 percent. The deadline for implementing these measures is set for December 31, 2028.
The fund targets businesses with NOx-taxable emission units. For the fishing fleet, this includes propulsion machinery with a total installed capacity exceeding 750 kW. Eligible measures include engine changes, energy efficiency improvements, and hybrid battery propulsion.
