NPA CEO advocates for regulatory harmony and technology transfer in Africa

Godwin Kudzo Tameklo, Chief Executive of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), has called for the harmonization of petroleum regulations across African nations to attract investment and enhance energy security. Speaking at the 20th OTL Africa Downstream Energy Week in Lagos, Nigeria, Tameklo emphasized that aligning licensing requirements, compliance procedures, and regulatory standards would reduce business barriers and foster a more integrated African petroleum market.

Tameklo also highlighted that capturing value from petroleum resources requires more than just expanding physical infrastructure. He stressed the necessity of technology transfer, increased technical expertise, and investment in human capital to ensure African countries can operate complex industrial systems independently.

Strengthening domestic refining capacity and investing in storage facilities and technology are viewed as essential steps to reducing dependence on imported petroleum products. According to the NPA chief, these efforts are critical to maximizing economic benefits, promoting innovation, and creating sustainable employment opportunities across the continent’s downstream industry.
