NPB 2026 Draft: Teams Finalize Selection Strategies

Japanese professional baseball clubs are conducting final preparations ahead of the 2026 Draft Meeting. Hiroshima Toyo Carp manager Akihiro Arai confirmed that the team will not disclose its first-round pick selection, a move the club has not made in five years. Scouting officials for the Carp have reportedly prepared several scenarios for the upcoming selection.

In a separate scouting meeting lasting approximately four and a half hours, the Yakult Swallows identified 93 final candidates. Scouting group leader Futoshi Yamabe noted that while the team lacks overall strength, high-ranking candidates include pitcher Shoki Oda and two-way player Haruki Komoda.

Analysts suggest that teams finishing in the lower ranks of the Central League, such as Hiroshima, Yakult, and Chunichi Dragons, are prioritizing specific needs. For Hiroshima, pitching remains a critical focus, with interest noted in left-handed pitcher Sena Hoshino from Osaka Business University, who has reached speeds of 151 km/h.
