NPC Indonesia and Kemenpora strengthen support for disabled athletes

The National Paralympic Committee of Indonesia (NPC Indonesia) is strengthening its synergy with the Ministry of Youth and Sports (Kemenpora) to enhance the development of athletes with disabilities. This move follows public discussions regarding fundraising efforts by deaf athletes seeking to compete internationally.

Satriawan Sulaksono, Head of the Legal Department at NPC Indonesia, explained that participation in international championships is part of a structured series of tryouts for National Training Centers (Pelatnas) aimed at the Paralympics. These events are designed to help athletes accumulate points and meet qualification requirements. He emphasized that selecting international competitions requires long-term planning and consolidation with Kemenpora to ensure government budget support is targeted, accountable, and coordinated.

Regarding deaf athletes, NPC Indonesia expressed full support for the Indonesian Deaf Athletes Association (PATRIN), which is recognized by the International Committee of Sports for the Deaf (ICSD). Membership in the ICSD is a mandatory requirement for a country to send official contingents to the Deaflympics, the highest level of international competition for deaf athletes.
