NPCI and IIIT Hyderabad partner to bolster digital payment cybersecurity

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) and the International Institute of Information Technology Hyderabad (IIIT-H) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen the security and resilience of India’s digital payments ecosystem.

The collaboration will be led by IIIT-H’s Cyber Manthan Centre (CMC), focusing on cybersecurity, digital forensics, and trusted infrastructure. Key areas of cooperation include joint research and development for deployable payment security solutions, payment-specific threat research, and specialized training to build a skilled cybersecurity workforce.

NPCI Managing Director and CEO Dilip Asbe noted that the rapid growth of digital payments necessitates continuous innovation and preparedness against evolving cyber threats. The partnership aims to bridge academic research with the practical security requirements of the fintech industry to protect the systems handling billions of monthly transactions.
