NPCIL achieves 1,000 billion units of cumulative nuclear power generation

The Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) has announced that its nuclear power plants have cumulatively generated over 1,000 billion units of electricity since the start of commercial operations.

According to NPCIL, this milestone has helped avoid more than 860 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions. This environmental impact is estimated to be comparable to removing approximately 187 million petrol-powered vehicles from the roads for a year, or the annual greenhouse gas emissions of major industrial economies like Germany or Japan.

The achievement aligns with India's broader energy goals, including the government's roadmap to reach 100 gigawatts (GW) of nuclear power capacity by 2047 as part of its transition toward net zero carbon emissions by 2070.
