NPERA and NPA begin talks on transferring inland dry port functions

The Nigerian Ports Economic Regulatory Agency (NPERA) and the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) have entered discussions regarding the transfer of inland dry port-related functions. This transition aims to implement a new regulatory framework designed to strengthen Nigeria’s marine and blue economy.

During technical meetings between the management of both agencies, officials focused on delineating responsibilities to prevent the duplication of functions among government bodies. NPERA Director-General and CEO, Dr. Pius Akutah, stated that the transition follows a directive from the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Dr. Adegboyega Oyetola, to advance national maritime development.

Akutah emphasized that successful integration requires cooperation from all stakeholders and the effective operationalization of the NPERA Act. To coordinate the process, a proposal was made to establish a joint committee involving NPERA, the NPA, and the National Inland Waterways Authority.
