NPFL clubs receive first payment from $7.5m Euromatch deal

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has begun distributing the first tranche of funds from a $7.5 million title sponsorship agreement with Euromatch. All 20 clubs in the league received their agreed percentage of the initial funds during a ceremony in Abuja.

Dr. Ayo Abdulrahman, the NPFL Chief Operating Officer, clarified that the $7.5 million figure represents the total value of the three-year contract, averaging $2.5 million per year. He noted that while the first portion of the funds has been shared with clubs, the league is still awaiting the full annual sponsorship amount for the current year.

In a separate move to enhance fan engagement, the NPFL is introducing a new matchday schedule. This includes Friday night, early Saturday, and Sunday kick-offs to provide more variety for supporters and broadcasters. The new format will be highlighted by a Matchday 9 fixture between Shooting Stars and Ranchers Bees at the Lekan Salami Stadium on Friday, October 16.
