Nigeria Premier Football League begins with Barau FC victory

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has commenced its new season with a series of opening-day matches. Barau FC of Kano secured a convincing 3-1 victory over Nasarawa United at the Sani Abacha Stadium. Goals for Barau FC were scored by Joseph Atule, Al-Amin Umar, and Sugau Aliyu, while Abubakar Abdullahi provided the lone response for Nasarawa United.

Defending champions Enugu Rangers earned a 1-1 draw against Katsina United at the MKO Abiola Stadium, with a 97th-minute equalizer rescuing a point for the Enugu-based side. Other notable results from the opening weekend include Rivers United defeating Plateau United 2-0, Ikorodu City winning 3-1 against Ranchers Bees, and Doma United securing a 2-0 win over Sporting Lagos.

While home teams generally performed well, some fixtures faced disruptions, such as the match between Abia Warriors and Kun Khalifat, which was affected by rain.
