NPİSTANBUL Hospital opens art exhibition for mental health

NPİSTANBUL Hospital has opened a mixed exhibition titled ‘Sanatın Dilinden Hayata’ (From the Language of Art to Life) to mark World Mental Health Day on October 10. The exhibition features over 100 works, including paintings, ceramics, ebru (marbling), and various handicrafts, created by patients within occupational therapy workshops.

Psychiatrist Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, who attended the opening, emphasized the therapeutic value of art therapy. He noted that art provides a way for patients to express subconscious emotions, fears, and traumas that are often difficult to verbalize. Tarhan explained that clinicians use these creative outputs as tools to better understand a patient’s internal state and progress in treatment.

The exhibition highlights the rehabilitation process, noting how patients' works often evolve from disorganized lines and limited color palettes to more defined compositions and diverse color usage over several years of study.
