NPP UK branch demands audit of Ghana Gold Board transactions
The United Kingdom branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called for an independent forensic audit of all transactions conducted by the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) over the past 18 months. This demand follows reports of a $1.7 billion financial assessment linked to the Domestic Gold Purchase Programme (DGPP), as noted in a recent International Monetary Fund (IMF) report.
While the $1.7 billion figure is described by some analyses as reflecting policy, exchange-rate, and valuation costs incurred by the Bank of Ghana to build national reserves rather than direct commercial trading losses, the NPP UK branch maintains that the magnitude of the figure requires rigorous scrutiny. The branch argues that an independent audit by non-partisan experts is necessary to ensure that the upcoming parliamentary inquiry, which Speaker Alban Bagbin has admitted following a Minority motion, remains credible and is not undermined by political division.
Separately, the NPP Canada branch has issued a demand for the Government of Ghana to take action within 48 hours against US-based activist Kevin Taylor. The branch alleges that Taylor has engaged in continuous attacks against former Second Lady Samira Bawumia and has made divisive commentary against the NPP.
