NRAI announces selection criteria for 2028 Los Angeles Olympics

The National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) has announced the selection criteria for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. The organization will retain the Olympic Selection Trials (OST) format previously utilized for the 2024 Paris Games.

Under the new criteria for pistol and rifle events, selection will be determined by a shooter’s Final Average Score (FAS), which is the average of their three highest OST scores, combined with applicable Quota Bonus Points (QBP). To remain eligible, athletes must participate in at least three of the four OSTs.

The decision follows previous controversies where athletes who had already secured Olympic quota places lost their spots after failing to perform during the trials. This occurred in the previous cycle, notably involving former world champion Rudrankksh Patil, who lost his place in the men’s 10m air rifle team to Sandeep Singh.
