Nördlingen officials discuss budget constraints and project priorities
During a recent town hall meeting for the Nördlingen core city, municipal treasurer Bernhard Kugler addressed the challenges facing the city's finances. While Nördlingen's financial position is relatively stable compared to other municipalities, rising costs for personnel, energy, and building maintenance are creating pressure.
Trade tax revenues have seen a decline, dropping from over 32 million euros annually between 2022 and 2024 to 23.8 million euros in 2025. For 2026, officials estimate revenues around 25 million euros, though much of this may stem from back payments from previous years.
To consolidate the budget, the city council and administration are working to limit annual investment volume to a maximum of 20 million euros. This strategy will require prioritizing urgent repairs, such as water pipe bursts or roof damage, over other planned projects. Additionally, the city aims to keep per capita debt below 1,000 euros by 2030, currently standing at approximately 750 euros.
