NRK expresses concern over Eurovision voting and Israel's participation

The Norwegian public broadcaster NRK has sent a letter to the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) expressing concerns regarding Israel's participation in the Eurovision Song Contest and the integrity of the competition's voting system.

Jostein Olseng, NRK's entertainment program editor, stated that the editorial team is concerned whether the voting process reflects musical preferences or is influenced by national and geopolitical factors. Olseng noted, “We have begun to doubt that the voting reflects which songs are the best, but rather which countries we support.”

While NRK maintains that EBU members who follow the rules should have the right to participate, the broadcaster emphasized that rules must be applied equally to all participating nations to prevent the contest from deviating from its original purpose. The competition has faced scrutiny due to Israel's involvement amid the conflict in Gaza, leading to boycotts from countries such as Spain, the Netherlands, and Ireland.
