NRL faces scheduling challenges for upcoming finals series

The NRL is facing significant scheduling complexities for its upcoming finals series, primarily driven by the success of the New Zealand Warriors. Due to time zone differences, the Warriors cannot host matches on Friday nights, which complicates the league's preferred broadcast schedule of Friday night and Sunday afternoon games.

This situation may force the NRL to start the post-season with an elimination match, a format not seen in a decade. Additionally, the schedule must account for player turnaround times; for instance, the Penrith Panthers cannot host a qualifying final on the Friday following their final-round game on Sunday.

Venue decisions also remain a point of contention. While South Sydney has expressed flexibility regarding their home final location, Cronulla is reportedly adamant about playing at Shark Park, despite the NRL's authority to dictate venues.
