NRL stars Nathan Cleary and Sam Walker face injury tests ahead of preliminary finals

The upcoming NRL preliminary finals will be heavily influenced by the fitness of key halfbacks Sam Walker and Nathan Cleary.

Penrith Panthers halfback Nathan Cleary is expected to participate in training this Friday after dealing with a stress-related foot injury. Following scans that detected bone damage, Cleary has transitioned from using a moon boot to completing gym work. While his preparation has been hampered by overuse from kicking and running, Penrith officials expressed confidence in his ability to play against the Newcastle Knights on Sunday.

Sydney Roosters halfback Sam Walker is also managing an injury. Roosters coach Craig Robinson indicated confidence that Walker will return from ankle surgery in time for the clash against the Dolphins at Suncorp Stadium on Friday night.
