NRM unveils strategic roadmap for 2031 elections in Uganda
The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has announced a strategic roadmap aimed at the 2031 general elections. NRM Secretary General Richard Todwong revealed that the party intends to update and digitize its membership register, a process that will involve coordination with the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) and the Electoral Commission. This initiative is awaiting approval from the party’s Central Executive Committee.
In addition to digitalizing records, the NRM plans to conduct a midterm evaluation of its manifesto implementation, specifically assessing the progress of government programs such as the Parish Development Model. The party also aims to strengthen its grassroots structures through internal elections, party primaries, and the construction of new party offices, including a new headquarters.
This proactive organizational push comes as Uganda’s opposition faces significant challenges, including key figures in exile or imprisonment, internal divisions within the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), and political shifts such as Democratic Party president Norbert Mao serving in the current cabinet.
