NRMA Insurance disputes community bus claim with Lions Club

A dispute has emerged between a Lions Club volunteer and NRMA Insurance regarding a community bus used to transport Adamstown pensioners. The 12-seater vehicle was written off following an accident in March 2024, when a volunteer driver struck a power pole.

Ilo Bozinovski, representing the interests of the group, argues that the bus should have been repaired rather than declared a total loss, noting that the damage appeared limited to a sliding door and window. However, the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA) ruled in favor of NRMA Insurance, stating the vehicle was insured for an agreed value of $9,500 and that the Lions Club had accepted this valuation by paying the policy premium.

NRMA Insurance maintains that when a vehicle is assessed as a total loss, claims are settled according to the agreed value specified in the policy. Mr. Bozinovski expressed intention to continue efforts to recoup what he describes as a valuable asset that was unjustly stripped from the community.
