NRW allocates €150 million to cities for anti‑poverty measures

The North Rhine‑Westphalia state government will provide roughly €150 million in support payments to all cities, municipalities and districts in the state for 2023. Under the "Stärkungspakt NRW – gemeinsam gegen Armut" programme, the city of Langenfeld receives €229,068, Hilden €267,246 and Monheim €347,697. CDU state parliament member Claudia Schlottmann said the funds will help cover rent and energy costs and allow social‑service providers to retain staff. Payments can be claimed for eligible expenses incurred between January and December 2023 and will be disbursed to the municipalities in February.

The programme aims to prevent individual hardship by financing the operation of social‑infrastructure facilities and meeting the increased demand for assistance caused by the ongoing crisis.
